Crystalline Non‐Equilibrium Phase of a Cobalt(II) Complex with Tridentate Ligands

2015

In six-coordinate complexes, flexible tridentate ligands enable mer, cis-fac, and trans-fac stereoisomers. With labile metal ions of the first transition metal series, typically only the final thermodynamic product is available because of the rapid isomerization processes. Here we report on the structural characterization of a so far elusive kinetic intermediate of [Co(ddpd)2](BF4)2 (1; ddpd = N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-dipyridine-2-yl-pyridine-2,6-diamine). Microcrystals of the cis-fac isomer of 1 were obtained by rapid precipitation. The solid-state structure of cis-fac-1 was determined from electron diffraction data.

Cooperativity in the Iron(II) Spin-Crossover Compound [Fe(ptz)6](PF6)2 under the Influence of External Pressure (ptz = 1-n-Propyltetrazole)

1997

The iron(II) spin-crossover compound [Fe(ptz)(6)](PF(6))(2) (ptz = 1-propyltetrazole) crystallizes in the triclinic space group Ponemacr;, with a = 10.6439(4) Å, b = 10.8685(4) Å, c = 11.7014(4) Å, alpha = 75.644(1) degrees, beta = 71.671(1) degrees, gamma = 60.815(1) degrees, and Z = 1. In [Fe(ptz)(6)](PF(6))(2), the thermal spin transition is extremely steep because of cooperative effects of elastic origin. The transition temperature at ambient pressure is 74(1) K. An external pressure of 1 kbar shifts the transition temperature to 102(1) K, corresponding to a stabilization of the low-spin state, which is smaller in volume. The volume difference between the high-spin and the low-spin stat…

Enforcement of a high-spin ground state for the first 3d heterometallic 12-metallacrown-4 complex.

2014

Cu(II)(DMF)2Cl2[12-MC(Fe(III)N(Shi))-4](DMF)4·2DMF was synthesized as the first heterometallic transition metal 12-MC-4 complex. The purposeful placement of specific metal ions in the different sites of the metallacrown attains the establishment of a high-spin ground state. Inducing the anticipated superior exchange interactions, the central Cu(II) guest ion averts the common mutual cancellation of the spins, as is observed in the corresponding homometallic compounds.

Synthesis and characterisation of p-block complexes of biquinoline at different ligand charge states

2017

The first examples of p-block coordination complexes of biquinoline, namely [(biq)BCl2]Cl and [(biq)BCl2]˙, were synthesized and structurally characterized. The acquired data allowed the estimation of the ligand charge state based on its metrical parameters. The subsequent use of this protocol, augmented with theoretical calculations, revealed ambiguities in the published data for transition metal complexes of biquinoline. peerReviewed

Hexaphosphine: A Multifaceted Ligand for Transition Metal Coordination

2011

We report the synthesis and characterization of the first ferrocenyl polyphosphane incorporating six phosphorus donor atoms. In this unique ligand, the cyclopentadienyl rings of the ferrocenyl backbone adopt a staggered position, which leads to a piano-stool arrangement for each of the two sets of three P atoms facing the same direction. As a consequence of its remarkable flexibility, this hexaphosphane displays versatile coordination behaviour towards metals, leading to unexpected structures of palladium and platinum bimetallic complexes. Analogous molybdenum and rhodium complexes are more classical.

Electronic Relaxation Phenomena Following 57Co(EC)57Fe Nuclear Decay in [MnII(terpy)2](ClO4)2·1/2H2O and in the Spin Crossover Complexes [CoII(terpy)…

2001

The valence states of the nucleogenic 57Fe arising from the nuclear disintegration of radioactive 57Co by electron capture decay, 57Co(EC)57Fe, have been studied by Mossbauer emission spectroscopy (MES) in the 57Co-labeled systems:  [57Co/Co(terpy)2]Cl2·5H2O (1), [57Co/Co(terpy)2](ClO4)2·1/2H2O (2), and [57Co/Mn(terpy)2](ClO4)2· 1/2H2O (3) (terpy = 2,2‘:6‘,2‘ ‘-terpyridine). The compounds 1, 2, and 3 were labeled with ca. 1 mCi of 57Co and were used as the Mossbauer sources at variable temperatures between 300 K and ca. 4 K. [Fe(terpy)2]X2 is a diamagnetic low-spin (LS) complex, independent of the nature of the anion X, while [Co(terpy)2]X2 complexes show gradual spin transition as the temp…
